Double Espresso, Hold the Wireless
June 13, 2003

Neighbor Jim Warren asked a very good question about the Half Moon Bay 802.11 cloud:
...Uh ... but does coastside.net allow ANYone to connect through that cloud ... If coastside's WiFi cloud is fee-based, you might wanna post an update...  :-) ...
I just checked Here are their prices. (gulp.)

For 802.11 wireless access in downtown Half Moon Bay.
coverage map

Quickie:     15 minutes  for   $2.95
Surfer          1 hour              $4.95*
Net Addict   3 hours           $14.95
*
* 'Low' Introductory Prices!

At these 'Low' prices,  I can't imagine who they think their audience is.   After hearing news all year about 802.11 wireless access at hotspots at places Starbuck, McDonald's  I mistakenly assumed we'd get a more homegrown HMB stye comfortably priced service. Whew~ I'll leave my laptop home and just enjoy my coffee.

This is exactly why NoCat is sucessfully organizing a community wireless network covering rural western Sonoma County.  /Mike
