Geocode Everything
July
18, 2003
If the endgame is a truly augmented reality, draped
with layers of a hyperlinked spatial web, Can anyone say why we shouldn't
begin, right now to geocode the location of everything? Is it too
soon to assume that applications developers can sort out later whether
something is described using a the simple geourl html
<icbm> tag , or a lightweght RDF structure.
for x,y,z, & t , or a full formal geospatial
metadata standard based on the full Dublin Core? I say let's get
it on!
But, lest we get carried away, let's keep in mind the potential
perils of extreme geocoding.
I
took off my clothes and stepped into the shower to find another one sitting
near the drain. It was about 2 feet tall and made of metal, with bright
camera-lens eyes and a few dozen gripping arms. ...
“Hi!
I'm from Google. I'm a Googlebot! I will not kill you.”
“I
know what you are.”
“I'm
indexing your apartment.”
“I don't want you here. Who let you
in?”
“I am Google! I find many good things. I find that pair of underwear
with the little dice printed all over them. . ."
