Radio Frequency Fog
June 13,
2003
Sometimes while the rest of California bakes, the central
coast soaks in continuous fogs, and mists. Similarly, we are all entering
a drenching fog of wireless spectra linking mobile phones, four flavors
of wifi gadgets, and rfid grocery tags. Last year CNN published a great
3D picture of a wireless cloud here.
Too bad the animation is disabled. :(
Internet architect, David
Reed has some very interesting
ideas on how to get the most performance out of these increasingly
spectrally dense wireless clouds. Viral Communications is the name
of David's new project at NIT along with Andy Lippman the founding associate
director of the Media Lab.
