Wireless and GPS Games
July 7,
2003
A wireless game design company called
HipnTasty has created
a wireless scavenger game called MobileHunt for
attendees at the Lollapallooza 2003
Festival coming to a city near you this
summer.
Earlier this spring, as part of the recent cartographic congress ( already
reported here), a group in London staged a local version of the
Node Runner
game first organized
in New York by NYC Wireless
and, a wireless hotspot advocacy group, and the digital art center, eyebeam.
Is this a trend? Besides Geocaching,
GPS has already been applied to enhancing golf
. Meanwhile, programmers
at the Contextual Computing
Group at Georgia Institute of Technology have published a paper
on how GPS might be applied to such old favorites as 'Capture
the Flag'. and
an earlier piece on Augmented
Reality Gaming.
